PetSafe® Brand Donates $8,000 to Help 136 Dogs Seized from Union County Home

PetSafe® brand, an industry leader in the development of innovative pet behavioral, containment and lifestyle product solutions and services, has donated $8,000 to Union County Humane Society (UCHS) to help with the cost of veterinary services needed for the 136 dogs rescued earlier this month from hoarders in Union County, Tenn.

Tammy Rouse, Executive Director of the UCHS, was at the home in Maynardville on March 12 when the homeowners were charged with animal cruelty for hoarding 136 dogs inside their 1,000 square foot home. “The conditions in the house were unbearable,” said Rouse. “The dogs were living in a cramped space, literally wall to wall. This is the worst animal hoarding case I have ever seen in the 19 years I have been in this business.”

The UCHS closed briefly while its staff managed the unexpected intake. Humane organizations in nearby counties accepted care of some of the dogs. “We are grateful for PetSafe brand’s donation to UCHS,” Rouse said. “This support, earmarked for veterinary care, is essential for the well being of these dogs, who are in need of care and vaccinations before we can offer them to potential families for adoption.”

Randy Boyd, Executive Chairman of Radio Systems® Corporation, makers of the PetSafe brand, believes in supporting the welfare of dogs in the company’s communities. “The UCHS is doing important work, particularly in this situation helping so many dogs to get healthy and ultimately adopted,” said Boyd. “I’m proud of our PetSafe brand staff, being proactive in offering financial and product support, and giving these caregivers the resources they need.”

About the Union County Humane Society (UCHS)

The Union County Humane Society (UCHS) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization established and chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1996. The purpose of UCHS is to prevent cruelty to animals, provide education, reduce the number of homeless animals through re-homing and pet sterilization, and relieve suffering among animals. UCHS provides shelter, humane care, and medical treatment when necessary. UCHS strives to find suitable homes for animals without owners, and assist in the return of lost animals to their owners.

UCHS is dependent on donations to continue its mission of providing animal health and safety to the community as well as caring for the many homeless animals brought in each day. For more information, visit http://www.unioncountyhumanesociety.org.
