A1: Radio Systems Corporation is pet product manufacturer based in Knoxville, TN, U.S.A. We are manufacturing and selling various pet products such as training product and so on, under brand name of PetSafe. In our office, pet dogs of staffs are walking around and we usually test the prototype with our own pet dog. Please also refer to the introduction video with subtitle.
Q2: Is static used for Bark Control harmful to dogs?
A2:
The static from Bark Control is managed and adjusted so that it would take the dog's attention off and that it would not hurt. With Deluxe Bark Control you can choose the level by yourself and please try from the weakest position. Bark Control is run by 6V-9V battery and correction time is 1/40 - 1/100 sec so the dogs won't feel hurt nor they get physical damage.
The max static power of Bark Control is 0.0003 Joule, which is 3 digits smaller than abodominal training machine for human.

Q3: I heard electric collar caused burn on the neck of a dog. Is that true?
A3: It is not possible for static of Bark Control to cause burn on skin. However, it can cause a symptom similar to burn if the product is used improperly. It is called "pressure necrosis". It is caused by too much tightening for a long time (such as several days continuously), which causes clogging capillary vessels. In operation manual of Bark Control, it is written the product should not be used more than 8-12 hours continuously, and also written that the owner should check the skin health everyday. Please obey the instruction.
Q4: Can static be harmful if he/she holds dog when activated?
A4: Static by Bark Control is only between two contact points on the body. It is not possible for human to feel it unless he/she touches the two contact points. Even doing so, it won't hurt, burn or cause pain for human.
Q5: Can the current increase when skin surface is wet and resistance is low?
A5: Static pulse is only between two contact points and voltage, current and time are all controlled, and the stimulation stays the same even when the surface is wet. It will not affect other posibion such as heart.
Q6: Is static unpleasant to dogs?
A6: Every training collar, including vibration, sonic, spray or static, is based on punishment for unwanted behavior of dogs. Generally, as the dog learns the behavior is not good, both of the frequency and necessity of punishment decreases.
Of course, there would be owners who wants to train their dog only by treats and praise, and there are certainly dogs that can be trained with such. However, every dog is different like human. Also, in general, it is more difficult to do negative training such as stopping unnecessary bark only with treats and praise.
With proper training, relationship between owner and pet can be better, which will make pets happier.
Q7: Do dogs have mental stress by static?
A7: Scientific experiment proves that is not the case, if used properly. It is the experiment performed by the group led by Dr. Janette Steiss, DVM, at Tuskegee University in 2003. Dogs are divided into 2 groupes, one has static anti-bark collar for designated schedule, and the other has usual collar. Mental stress is measured by salivary concentration of Cortisol. The result was, although for the first day the group with static collar felt more stress than those without, after 2nd day the difference was not significant.
Q8: Is static more effective than spray or sonic?
A8: Spray and sonic are surely effective training methods. Every dog is different like human and it is not possible to say which method is the most effective.
However, static has several advantages over other methods. For example, with multiple dogs, spray and sonic can affect other dogs than the one who actually barks. Also with static, as we implement, it is possible to change the strength according to the behavior so it is more difficult for dogs to get accustomed to the stimulation and to start barking again. Due to all these, in U.S., advanced country having pets, static is most common method and more than 2 million static training are sold annually.
Q9: Is there any restriction by age of dogs?
A9: No restriction by age. It varies by breed and characteristics, but you can use it when the dog can "learn" other training such as "sit" or "hand".
Q10: Shall we consult with vets before starting to use Bark Control?
A10: Before starting training to solve any behavior issues, you should consult your veterinarian to ensure the cause of the behavior problem is not clinical (i.e., bladder infection causing inappropriate urination).

Is battery installed properly?

Is the triangle mark on battery is at "ON"?

When you switch to "TEST" and blow hard onto the unit, does LED on unit blinks 3 times? If it blinks the unit is working well.

Does it operate when replaced with new battery?
If the unit does not work even after checking above points, please call to our customer support at 0120-208-278. Just FYI, our Deluxe Bark Control will not be activated only with sound (exception is on "TEST" mode) because it detects barking by both vibration and sound.
