A Night to Remember
Knoxville put its “best paw forward” on Saturday, August 8, when PetSafe held its 4th annual Black Tie and Tails Gala benefiting Morris Animal Foundation’s fight against canine cancer.
The event, one of the top charitable galas in Knoxville, is organized, promoted, and staffed entirely by PetSafe employees. With nearly 200 attendees of the two-legged and four-legged variety, the event raised $45,000 through silent and live auctions, with all proceeds donated to Morris Animal Foundation.
Canine cancer is a significant problem in our pet dog population. Studies suggest that 1 in 4 dogs will develop cancer in their lifetime, and cancer is a leading cause of death in dogs over 10 years of age. Nearly 6 million cases of canine cancer are diagnosed each year.
PetSafe employees decided they wanted to change these statistics, and joined together to create two fundraising events. The result of this hard work and dedication is the Black Tie and Tails Gala and the Knoxville K9 Cancer Walk.
This year’s gala raised $45,000 for the foundation. Since its inception, the Black Tie and Tails galas have raised nearly $150,000 for canine cancer research. These funds are necessary to continue to attract and support the best veterinary cancer scientists in the world.
Saving Dogs from Cancer
Morris Animal Foundation has been supporting canine cancer research for more than 50 years, investing $16 million in 219 canine cancer studies. Thanks to the generous support of partners like PetSafe, the foundation has 42 active canine cancer studies, totaling over $5 million. Current studies are investigating a wide range of important canine cancer problems, from finding better ways to identify which tumors are most likely to spread to discovering new chemotherapy targets.
“Our parent corporation, Radio Systems, hopes to help our community members realize that those experiencing pet cancer are not alone,” Travis Vickery, Senior Risk Management Specialist, said. “Community members can help fight canine cancer by funding more studies through participating in PetSafe-sponsored events.”
By working together, PetSafe and Morris Animal Foundation are making a difference to fight cancer and improve the lives of our four-legged companions and their families.
