The World According to Cooper: The Garbage Truck Monster

world according to cooper Hi, my name is Cooper Augustus Greene. All of my friends just call me Cooper, or Coop for short. I am a 10 month old Lhasa Apso whom my mom refers to as her furry child. My mom also tells me that she searched for over a year to find me and she picked me over hundreds of other puppies. That makes me feel so good to know that she was searching just for me. I am a really lucky little boy.

And I go to work with her every day. I have lots of friends there, both human and canine. Most of us don’t think of ourselves as dogs though!! I help my mom out with spreadsheets looking over reports and, in meetings I help her keep everyone focused. But, most importantly, I am her closest friend.

I love everything about going to work with my mom except for one thing. There are monsters in the parking lot. Everyone is so shocked when I tell them about the monsters because it is such a nice place to go every day. We even have a park just for doggies!! I’ll tell you how I first came to know about these monsters in the parking lot.

One day I was taking a break outside with my mom, just a normal day. Suddenly, I heard this really loud noise on the hill in front of us. I looked up and there it was; the biggest monster I had ever seen. It is blue and big and has these 2 enormous arms that stick out and pick things up and then let them slam down to the ground again. I was so afraid; I just wanted to run as fast as I could back inside where it was safe. Mom did not understand why I was running, but she could tell that I was really upset so she followed me. She picked me up and held me close and told me that nothing would ever happen to me as long as she was standing beside me, but I was still so scared.

Later that afternoon we went back out and the monster was gone, so I relaxed some. I was still on the lookout for him though. I love my mom and I know that she would never let anything happen to me, but this monster is a million times bigger than her and I am afraid it would hurt her too. By the way, I learned how to count watching Sesame Street!!

I watch for the monster every day.  He only seems to show up once or twice a week.  Every time he shows up I run for the office building. My mom tells me every time that nothing is going to happen to me and I do believe her, but I am still scared all the same. There is one way that I won’t let the monster win-- I will not stop going to work with mom just because of the monster.  It is too much fun and my mom needs me!! I’ll talk to you all again soon!!

Cooper’s story is a reminder to all pet owners that there are many things that might shock, surprise and scare them--things that would never occur to you.  It is our job as their people to always make them feel protected and loved and enjoy the quirky little things that they do. I am lucky to have such a smart furry kid in my life like Cooper who encourages me to tell his stories. Those furry paws really struggle with a keyboard!!  In case you were wondering, the monster in the parking lot is the garbage truck!
