How do I install a patio panel in a recessed frame?

When considering a pet patio panel, you first need to determine the kind of sliding glass door you have. You can easily install a patio pet panel door into both exposed and recessed doors. An exposed sliding glass door frame is visible and exposed in the interior and exterior wall. You can see the track the door slides into. A recessed frame is flush with or barely visible in the interior or exterior wall. You can't see the track the door slides into. If you have a recessed door, you will need a Patio Panel Kit (not included) to install your pet door.

You'll need a pencil, measuring tape, drill, and 7/64" drill bit. Use the 2 L brackets for measuring and marking purposes. The metal brackets are universal and will work in the top or bottom track.

  1. Slide the patio panel door against the sliding door jamb. Measure and mark the top center and bottom center of the patio panel door and mark the sliding door frame. This is where you'll install the 2 metal brackets.
  2. If you have a large-tall patio panel, mark the bottom of the door frame where the bracket meets the edge of patio panel.
  3. Slide the panel over and up so you can place brackets in the track of the sliding glass door.
  4. Take one of the metal brackets and place it at the top of the sliding glass track where the mark aligns with the part of the bracket that hangs down. Mark the inside of the track for your pilot holes. Do the same for the bottom track.
  5. For a large-tall patio panel, use the edge of the metal bracket to align with the mark at the bottom
  6. Use a 7/64-inch drill bit to drill pilot holes for metal brackets at the top and bottom of the patio panel door.
  7. Place the metal brackets back into place. With the screws provided, secure the metal brackets in the top and the bottom of your sliding glass door track.
  8. Slide your patio panel back against the door jamb and you will see the metal brackets in front of your patio panel. For large-tall doors, the bracket will line up at the edge of the patio panel.
  9. Drill pilot holes through the metal brackets and into the patio panel at the top and bottom. Attach the brackets with the screws provided.
